ACTTo provide for public holidays and for incidental matters.BE IT ENACTED by the National Assembly of the Republic of Namibia, as follows:-

1. Public Holidays

[The word “Holidays” in this heading should not be capitalised.]

(1)The days specified in the Schedule shall be public holidays.

(2)When a public holiday falls on a Sunday the following Monday shall also be a public holiday, unless that Monday is a public holiday.

(3)The President may by proclamation in the Gazette declare any day in a particular year, not being a public holiday in terms of subsection (1) or (2), to be a public holiday.

2. Interpretation of laws

Any reference in any law to a public holiday shall be construed as a reference to a public holiday referred to in section 1.

3. Repeal of Act 7 of 1987

The Public Holidays Act, 1987, is hereby repealed.

4. Short title and commencement

This Act shall be called the Public Holidays Act, 1990, and shall come into operation on 1 February 1991.
